First Small Satellite Constellation for Disaster Monitoring Launched

      Surrey Satellite Technology, a Guildford, UK-basedsatellite manufacturer,launched three small satellites into low Earth orbit aboard a Kosmos rocket from Plesetsk in northern Russia Sept. 27. Company officials said the satellites would be used for the first small satellite constellation to monitor global disasters. The satellites will join ALSAT-1, another Surrey-built satellite which was launched last November. The constellation will enable international disaster relief organizations to monitor and to provide emergency assistance to disaster.
