Intelsat Bullish Over Broadband

By Staff Writer | September 17, 2003

Washington, D.C.-based Intelsat believes the time is right for the satellite operator to make an impact in the broadband arena. Erich Fischer, senior director of global broadband services at Intelsat, told SATELLITE TODAY this week: “Broadband is a key part of Intelsat’s future and a way to use the strengths of satellite to bridge the digital divide and to enhance the communication abilities of customers around the world. People have said [satellite] broadband has been coming for a long time. Given technical developments and price points we now are at a place in the evolution of the market where satellite broadband makes great economic and technical sense.”

An exclusive in-depth interview with Erich Fischer can be found in the international section of the Sept. 22 issue of Satellite News. For more information about subscribing to PBI Media’s satellite newsletters, check out our Web site at https://www.satellitetoday.com
