By Staff Writer | September 10, 2003

Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT], the contractor in charge of construction and testing of the NOAA-N Prime satellite, is working with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) concerning a satellite accident that occurred Sept. 6.

The NOAA-N environmental satellite was dropped about three feet during testing at Lockheed Martin’s facility in Sunnyvale, Calif. “We are waiting for an assessment of the damage from the investigation teams,” said NOAA Administrator Conrad C. Lautenbacher. “We will have a better idea of the extent of the impact on our satellite programs when the results are available.”
