U.S. Military Satellite Launch Delayed Until Late August

By Staff Writer | August 12, 2003

Boeing [NYSE: BA] and U.S. Air Force officials again have delayed the launch of the Defense Satellite Communications System spacecraft (DSCS III B6) from the Cape Canaveral, Fla. The launch now is scheduled for Aug. 28, with back up days on Aug. 29 and 30. It originally was scheduled for Aug. 3 (see ST, Aug. 1). The launch team will consider earlier opportunities in the month should the range become available.

Earlier this week, the launch team successfully completed the removal and replacement of an antenna associated with the rocket’s flight termination system. However, additional requirements and range availability made rescheduling to the end of the month necessary.
