BT Targets Satellite Deals In Asia

By Staff Writer | July 23, 2003

BT Broadcast Services believes the time is right to expand its presence in Asia. The British Telecom unit, a provider of terrestrial and satellite-based multimedia transmission solutions, hopes to strike a number of deals with satellite operators to boost its presence in the region.

CEO Mark Smith told SATELLITE TODAY: “We are talking to [satellite] operators about how we [can] expand some of our deals to encompass Asia. The deal we have with PanAmSat [Nasdaq: SPOT]is a global deal already. What we would like to do is talk to the other operators about how we can do similar deals with them.”

An exclusive in-depth interview with Mark Smith can be found in the July 30 issue of Interspace. For more information about subscribing to PBI Media‘s satellite newsletters, check out our Web site at http://www.telecomweb.com/catalog.
