By Staff Writer | July 2, 2003

Direct-to-home provider GlobeCast and Intelsat jointly announced that Malayalam-language television channel Asianet USA has joined the GlobeCast DTH platform using the Telstar 5 satellite.

GlobeCast’s platform on Telstar 5 is the fastest growing international broadcasting community on a North American satellite, and is dedicated exclusively to delivering international and specialty programming across the continent.

For its part, Intelsat is provisioning the end-to-end turnkey delivery of Asianet’s signal from India to the United States. The program is received via the APR-1 satellite at the REACH teleport in Hong Kong where it undergoes standards conversion and encoding before it is uplinked to the Intelsat 701 satellite located at 180º East Longitude. GlobeCast provides turnaround at its international teleport in Los Angeles, managing the encryption and transmission of the channel via the WorldTV platform on Telstar 5 for direct-to-home distribution to subscribers in the U.S. market.
