Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT], based in Bethesda, Md., and Spectrum Astro, headquartered in Gibert, Ariz., have joined together to pursue the development of the next-generation of Global Positioning System satellites (GPS III). The companies will bid to provide system and sustaining engineering, satellite development and production, control segment upgrades, and research and development for GPS III. GPS III will address military and civil needs, including improved anti-jam capabilities, system security and accuracy, and reliability.
