NDS Group believes the European market is likely to show signs of improvement for conditional access (CA) vendors this year. NDS has recently signed deals with satellite pay-TV operators Foxtel in Australia and Viasat in the Nordic region to provide CA solutions. It has also signed a deal with Indian cable operator Hathway Cable & Datacom to supply a new CA system, as well as a fully functional electronic program guide (EPG).

NDS CFO Rick Medlock told SATELLITE TODAY that the company’s European prospects are good. “In Europe, there are a number of people that are currently looking to replace their existing CA system for various reasons. I think there are more potential prospects that we are currently talking to than we have seen for some time. I think the environment is moving more positively for Europe.”
