Calian Technology [Toronto: CTY] announced Monday that its Systems Engineering Division has received new contracts that increase the division’s backlog of signed work to over $71 million through March. The signings reflect repeat business and a strengthened position in Canadian, European and U.S. government markets served by Calian.

In March, the Canadian government exercised a contract extension, valued at $4.7 million, for operations and maintenance services for the Canadian Space Agency‘s Satellite Operations Directorate. This is a continuation of work SED has performed for the CSA since 1993, and reflects the CSA’s evolving requirements.

During the January-March quarter, contracts totaling $4.6 million were signed with a U.S. defense contractor for the manufacture of various subassemblies of a transportable radar system used in surveillance and security applications. The contracts include a combination of upgrades, repeat orders and new requirements.

In February, Calian announced a $33 million contract with the European Space Agency for a 35-metre deep space antenna system to be installed in Spain. This contract followed acceptance of a similar system SED provided to ESA in Australia.
