Loral Skynet, a subsidiary of Loral Space & Communications [NYSE: LOR], did not take long after its recent consolidation with Loral Cyberstar to launch new satellite network services.

SkyReach is the name Loral Skynet will use for a group of Internet protocol (IP)-based services aimed at providing secure private networks and high-speed Internet access to corporate clients. The services will give customers a global platform for both enterprise-grade networking and high-speed Internet access, said Terry Hart, Loral Skynet’s president.

SkyReach is designed to ensure each location, regardless of geography or technology, has secure access to private intranets as well as the public Internet, Hart said.

Using very small aperture terminal (VSAT) and fiber infrastructure, teleports and network operating centers in North America, Europe and Asia, SkyReach will deliver one-way and two-way IP services around the world.

With VSATs, SkyReach will enable organizations to create a network infrastructure to connect offices within a city or around the globe. Using an IP infrastructure that incorporates digital video broadcast/return channel satellite (DVB-RCS) open standards, SkyReach will support C-, Ku- and Ka-band frequencies, company officials said.
