STMicroelectronics [NYSE: STM], supplier of set-top box (STB) chips and MPEG-2 decoders, has introduced a new Omega STB decoder product – the STi5517. Suitable for use in cable, terrestrial and satellite TV applications, the STi5517 has higher specification graphics and enhanced security features resulting in a more secure STB, the company said. In addition, the CPU speed has been increased to 180MHz, enabling faster response times and the ability to support a wider range of applications.
