Connexion, a business unit of Boeing [NYSE: BA], is tasking ViaSat [Nasdaq: VSAT] to develop airborne receive and transmit subsystems [ARTS] for its in-flight communications system for aircraft. For the past two years, ViaSat has been working with international carriers Lufthansa and British Airways to develop an in-flight Internet communications system. The timing of these airborne modem next-generation antenna modifications and deliveries enable aircraft installations early next year in preparation for Connexion by Boeing commercial service launch in 2004.
