Qualcomm Tests First A-GPS Location Session Over GSM Networks
Qualcomm [Nasdaq: QCOM] has tested the first assisted-Global Positioning System position location sessions over live GSM communications networks using its MGP6200 multimode GPS processor. The location calls, made in Europe and the United States over commercial-grade GSM wireless systems, used test mobiles that integrate the MGP6200 chip with its MSM6200 wireless modem for GSM/GPRS/UMTS networks.
Examples of consumer- and enterprise-oriented commercial precision location services include personal navigation and friend-finder services, location-based games and entertainment, child-safety and enhanced roadside assistance services, sales force management, and asset tracking services.
