DirecTV To Offer Five New Chinese-language Channels

TVB Satellite Platform (El Segundo, Calif.), a wholly owned subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Chinese-language broadcaster TVB Group, agreed to let DirecTV, a Hughes Electronics [NYSE: GMH] subsidiary and the largest U.S. digital satellite TV services provider, offer a programming package of five Chinese-language channels.

The five-channel package is called “Jadeworld” and is available on an a la carte basis for $36.99 a month beginning immediately, DirecTV officials said. The new package will be the second Chinese-language offering in DirecTV’s U.S. lineup. The other is the Phoenix North American Chinese Channel offered in Mandarin.
