With the release this week of a “green paper” on the European Union‘s space policy, the European Commission and the European Space Agency are preparing to debate the future direction of European space policy. The paper examines Europe’s assets and weaknesses in this sector.

The report tackles such issues as the EU’s independent access to space, scientific research, industrial and technological base, relevant markets, human resources, the legal and institutional framework, international co-operation and environmental and security aspects.
