STMicroelectronics [STM], a supplier of set-top box and MPEG decoder chips, recently shipped its 100 millionth MPEG-2 device to set-top box manufacturers, company officials said. ST’s chips are used in the satellite, cable and terrestrial TV markets. The Geneva-based company recently introduced its OMEGA chip family’s latest member, the STi5516, which is the de facto industry standard for MPEG decoding, its officials said.
