By Staff Writer | January 9, 2003

Sirius Satellite Radio [SIRI] was the second U.S. satellite radio to enter commercial service, but it intends to be the first to add a video component onto its existing slate of audio programming.

Company officials demonstrated the capability to transmit video signals this week during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas with the intent of developing commercial applications for the technology.

A survey Sirius (New York City) conducted to determine the interest of consumers in satellite radio and in-car video found that 13 percent of the respondents said they would subscribe to satellite radio during the next two years. In addition, 12 percent of the respondents wanted in-car video, said Larry Rebich, vice president of programming and market development.
