By Staff Writer | June 19, 2002

Canal+ Horizons, the African subsidiary of French pay-TV group Canal Plus, has launched a digital package to DTH viewers on the African continent. The bouquet uses the NSS-7 satellite (21.5 degrees West) that was launched onboard an Ariane rocket in April. Viewers in the target area can receive the digital platform, which is available on Ku-band frequencies, with dishes of at least 90 centimetres in size. Besides Canal+ Horizons and its offshoot Canal+ Horizons Jaune, the package includes a large number of domestic general interest and thematic channels from France, among them TF1, France 2 International, TV5, Ciné-Cinémas, Action, Pathé Sport, Motors TV, RTL 9, AB1, 13eme Rue, Paris Premiere, i>télévision, Odyssée, Cartoon Network, MTV and RFM TV as well as the radio stations RFI, NRJ and Europe 1. A dedicated electronic programme guide is also part of the offer, which is commercialised under the brand name CanalSatellite Horizons. The package targets the approximately 90 million people living in Africa who speak the French language.
