More than 75,000 households are receiving ORF’s two domestic television channels through the Austrian public broadcaster’s digital package on Astra (19.2 degrees East). According to a statement, the Vienna-based broadcaster, has activated 75,769 of the smart cards needed to receive ORF1 and ORF2 whose satellite signals are encrypted for reasons of copyright protection. The main purpose of the satellite transmission is to reach viewers in remote areas where the terrestrial signal is of poor quality.
