New Amos in planning

By Staff Writer | September 12, 2001

Even though Amos 2 is not expected to be launched until the winter of 2002-3, planning and outline development is taking place on a proposed Amos 3, according to sources close to Israel’s SpaceCom. Earlier this year there was a shareholder restructuring with Israel-based Eurocom Communications buying Gilat’s 25 per cent stake in SpaceCom, operators of the Amos satellites. Eurocom is also an investor in Yes Television, Israel’s DTH broadcasting platform. Amos 2 is a 1400kg craft being built by Israel Aircraft Industries, of Lod, Israel. There are potential problems with Amos 2, in that not all its planned frequencies have been co-ordinated with its proposed neighbour at 5 degrees West, France Telecom’s Stellat.
