Turkish pay-TV operator DigiTurk has started to offer a selection of channels to viewers outside its domestic market. According to a spokesman, DigiTurk Euro will targets the strong Turkish-speaking communities in Europe. The package, which offers 49 radio stations, TV channels and interactive services that have cleared their copyright for distribution outside Turkey, is, like DigiTurk itself, transmitted on Eutelsat’s W3 satellite on 7 degrees East. It doesn’t include the pay-per-view service with Hollywood blockbuster movies and the homebanking and e-mail applications, however, DigiTurk’s live coverage of the Turkish football league is part of the European variant. The package, which includes an 80 cm satellite dish, a LNB, a Cryptoworks set-top-box, a smart card and a half year subscription, is sold for approximately E500.

The smart cards are not available on a stand-alone basis, only bundled with the receiver. DigiTurk is currently appointing sales partners in European countries. In Germany, which has a strong community of 2.4 million Turkish people, SM-Electronic and Komfaks have been selected. The DigiTurk Euro packages will be available in large German electronic stores such as Mediamarkt and Metro. Further information:
