SES has demonstrated the capabilities of the Astra Broadband Interactive System to delegates at the Radio, Electrical & Television Retailers’ Association (RETRA) annual conference on the island of Jersey. By collaboration between Astra and Astra-Net service provider DC-Sat.Net, the conference organisers were able to conduct a two-way live video interview with Michael Henderson, CEO of Buy-as-you-View, from his office in Llantrisant, South Wales, in near-broadcast quality. DC-Sat.Net used a satellite interactive terminal (SIT) consisting of a standard PC with a built-in transceiver and small antenna to transmit the interview. The system uses standard IP protocols, and delegates saw the video through an Internet browser on the projection screen.
