Cidera Inc. of Laurel, Md., which specializes in delivering Internet connectivity via satellite, has agreed with start-up company LayerOne Inc. to deploy Cidera’s content delivery service at the neutral network collocation sites LayerOne is building.
Cidera will install earth stations at all of LayerOne’s facilities in the United States and will extend its services to ISPs, ASPs (applications service providers) content providers and other E-commerce companies that colocate at LayerOne’s sites.
Cidera will provide these ISPs and ASPs with its services such as Cidera Usenet News Service, Cidera Streaming Media Service, Cidera Cache Turbocharging and Cidera Big File Mover.
LayerOne, which is based in Dallas and was established only last January, plans to build 12 neutral colocation facilities this year and maintain an aggressive build-out program in 2001 and 2002. In addition to ISPs and ASPs, LayerOne markets its facilities and end-to-end services to all sorts of telecom companies, including interexchange and competitive local exchange carriers.
