Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch’s Bulgarian TV (BTV) the first-ever private nationwide TV broadcaster in the country, will go on air June 1, initially for just two hours a day. The projected initial investment in BTV is set at some US$20 million dollars. The actual sum will depend on whether the station will be using its own studios, or a rented building. After July 1 BTV will increase to six hours, and October 1 will see 18-hour transmissions and newscasts. BTV has contracted for programming with Fox Kids and Fox Sports, and soccer matches of the European Champions League. “We guarantee 100-per-cent independence in news coverage,” [News Corporation Executive Director] Marty Pompadour says, adding that only the manner of presentation will be different. “We want to show the viewers something that they are not accustomed to.”
