Sky Digital is planning a two stage upgrade in its digibox functionality. The first step, referred to as ‘enhancements’ rather than an actual second generation involves the introduction of TiVo personal video recorder functionality in the autumn. The real leap forward will come in the Spring of 2001 when the NDS XTV system will be intergrated into a second generation box that will also include an ADSL port to include ‘always on’ ADSL connectivity. Sky was widely believed to be the European client for NDS, but this is the first time that confirmation has been given.
