TRW Inc. [TRW] has delivered to Lockheed Martin Corp. [LMT] the low data rate payload communications package for the sixth and last satellite in the Defense Department’s ultra-secure Milstar system. TRW also provides post-delivery support for testing, launch and in-orbit operations.
Lockheed Martin is the prime contractor for Milstar, which provides communications with man-portable, mobile and fixed terminals used by all of the armed services, with the communications payload supplied by TRW and Hughes Electronics Corp. [GHM]. The fourth Milstar satellite is scheduled for launch later this year, and the fifth and sixth are to follow next year and in 2002.
