Two regional TV channels from North-Rhine Westphalia, Germany’s largest state, will launch on satellite next year. Media authority LfR last week granted satellite licences to NRW 1, Privat TV and NRW TV Fernsehen aus Nordrhein-Westfalen, valid for 10 years. Both companies aim to offer 24-hour general interest channels with strong regional emphasis. Besides satellite distribution, NRW 1 and NRW TV also are seeking space on North-Rhine Westphalia’s cable networks. LfR will finalise a revised cable allocation plan early next year in which both channels are expected to be included within the analogue offering.
