The satellite TV channel of Montenegro’s public broadcaster RTV Crna Gora has switched to a 24-hour format in clear MPEG-2. TV Montenegro will continue to broadcast in analogue five hours daily via the Eutelsat W2 satellite, in parallel to the new digital channel which is available on the Eutelsat Hot Bird satellites. Besides attracting a large percent of satellite viewers in both Yugoslav republics (Serbia and Montenegro), the channel is also available on cable in Slovenia (Ljubljana, Maribor and Kranj). According to the director general of TV Montenegro, Velibor Covic, there are plans to extend the channel’s coverage to North America. Also, programme agreements have been signed with TV channels from neighbouring countries, such as TV BiH and TV Banja Luka from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The satellite broadcasts of TV Montenegro, which uses a transponder supplied by France Telecom, are being financed by the international community.
