Italian pay-TV operator Stream has reported a record 120 per cent increase in subscribers to its digital platform for June. At the same time, Stream has announced that Corrado Sciolla (nominated by former News Corp Europe president Letizia Moratti) has left his post and returned to his previous job with responsibility for corporate business development at News Corp.

Meanwhile, the likelihood that Stream will soon switch over to Simulcrypt transmissions in Irdeto-Videoguard seems to be gaining force. The new system could be introduced in the first part of 2000, meaning that new boxes compatible with the OpenTV standard will soon appear on the market. A representative of Stream’s technical department told Interspace that "we will assure all our Irdeto subscribers the necessary support, guaranteeing a smooth passage towards the new technology: we have no intention of discriminating [against] those who have chosen to buy an Irdeto receiver…."
