Polish national broadcaster Telewizja Polska (TVP) has, as expected, agreed terms with Canal Plus Polska for its participation in the Polish Cyfra+ digital bouquet. Under the terms of the agreement, signed in Warsaw on July 28, Canal+ Cyfrowy Sp Z.o.o. (operators of the Cyfra+ digital bouquet) will be converted into a joint-stock company in which TVP will take a 10 per cent stake with the possibility of later increasing its stake to a maximum of 40 per cent. The agreement, besides securing TVP1 and TVP2 for the digital bouquet as free-to-air channels on a non-exclusive basis. The deal also covers the creation of two new exclusive channels (news and a cultural channel) for the Cyfra+ bouquet, funded to the tune of $4 million annually. Cyfra+ last week claimed 155,000 subscribers to its digital package, with Canal Plus Polska having 300,000 subscribers spread over satellite and cable.
