Kirch Group’s digital bouquet DF-1 has given notice of termination of contracts to a number of third party channels, effective from September. Channels affected include BBC Prime. A spokeswoman said: "We have received notification of termination from DF-1 [and] this is obviously of concern. Due to our long standing relationship with DF-1 we believe a solution will be found." Interspace understands that other third party channels, such as Music Choice, have also been told their contracts will be terminated, without any word on continuation when Kirch Group launches the new (combined) Premiere/DF-1. It seems probable that, by starting negotiations from scratch, Kirch Group is seeking to establish more favourable contracts (to itself) with the channels.
