Next week, Washington law firm Reed, Smith, Shaw & McClay will hold a one-and-a-half-day symposium on the legal, business and technical implications of orbital debris. The symposium will cover risk-minimization options for manufac turers, operators and insurers, as well as the scope of current and predicted orbital-debris risk. The meeting follows the first known satellite-space debris inci dent: the crippling of a French military satellite last year when it clipped a fragment from a 1986 Arianespace launch failure. The symposium will be held at Reed, Smith’s offices on Feb. 13 to Feb. 14; fee is $95. Contact Sarah Pekruhn of Reed, Smith at Tel: 202/414-9454 or Fax: 202/414-9299.
