[Via Satellite 09-26-2014] NSSLGlobal has added a beam from Telenor and a beam from Eutelsat in order to expand the reach of its VSAT network. The company chose the Eutelsat 70B beam to replace services on Asia Broadcast Satellite’s ABS 2. NSSLGlobal said the switch removes the need for vessels traveling from Europe to the Far East through the Suez Canal to switch beams during their journey.

The Telenor service comes from the Thor 6 Nordic beam, located at 1 degree west. This beam will bring coverage to customers in the Nordics, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and the Far East.

NSSLGlobal is operating the beam from its Norwegian Teleport. The company has been expanding its ground station network, having purchased teleports in Connecticut, United States, and Perth, Australia earlier this year. NSSLGlobal began using the beams Sept. 1.
