Swedish satellite operator Ovzon has debuted a new mobile satellite terminal in a small form factor, the Ovzon T8. The terminal is designed for mobility across air, land, and sea, ranging from unmanned systems, vehicles, and vessels.
The Ovzon T8 is described as an ultra-compact, lightweight, low-consumption on-the-move mobile satellite terminal, with Ovzon calling it the smallest terminal in its class. Measuring 7.3 inches by 5.1 inches, the terminal weighs 4.6 pounds. Ovzon said this size supports “new use cases that were previously not feasible.”
According to the spec sheet, the T8 is designed to transmit up to 6 Mbps and receive up to 96 Mbps. It is designed for military, civil defense, and commercial use and compatible with the company’s Ovzon-3 network, based on Sweden’s first privately funded Geostationary Orbit (GEO) satellite.
“The Ovzon T8 represents a step-change in what is possible with mobile satellite communications. By drastically reducing size, we are enabling our customers to rethink how and where connectivity can be deployed,” says Per Norén, CEO of Ovzon.
