Calian Group will design and manufacture four gateway ground stations for two Geostationary (GEO) satellites for an unnamed customer under a new deal announced Monday.

Calian will deliver four 10-meter Ka/Q/V-band gateway antennas along with the radio frequency (RF) equipment, and monitoring and control systems in the Middle East. The two satellites these ground stations will support was not specified in the announcement, but they will deliver sovereign connectivity for government communications across an area that includes Africa, Europe, and Asia.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Calian was selected after a competitive international tender with multiple providers of ground systems. The systems will be engineered and manufactured in Canada, where Calian is based. Calian’s ground station solutions are designed to support multiple orbits and all frequency bands, QV bands which are seen as the most technically challenging.

“This win demonstrates our position as world leaders in providing advanced ground satellite solutions and highlights the strength of Canadian engineering in delivering end-to-end ground infrastructure that meets the most demanding technical and mission-critical requirements,” said Chris Pogue, president of Calian’s Defence and Space business.
