Voyager Technologies said it has acquired proprietary technology in optical communications from BridgeComm, the company announced Monday. Voyager said this acquisition will allow the company to deliver optical communication solutions to defense and commercial markets on a faster timeline.

Voyager did not disclose the terms of the investment. BridgeComm developed optical communication terminals and optical ground stations, but the company has been quiet in recent years. Its most recent CEO, Michael Abad-Santos, has not been with the company for more than a year, according to his LinkedIn.

Voyager said the technology will support commercial applications like linking aircraft to satellite constellations.

“By compressing development into a much shorter timeframe, we’re able to respond to one of the fastest-growing needs in defense and commercial communications,” Voyager Chairman and CEO Dylan Taylor said in a release. “With the acquisition, we can accelerate the rollout of optical solutions that will support Department of Defense missions while positioning the solutions for commercial adoption in parallel.”

Voyager Technologies went public earlier this year with plans to increase its capabilities through mergers and acquisitions. The company has capabilities in solid propulsion components, guidance and navigation systems, signal and electronic intelligence, space communications, and more. Voyager is part of the joint venture building the Starlab commercial space station.
