Maryland-based quantum computing company IonQ entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with South Korean satellite antenna and gateway developer Intellian Technologies to explore a partnership that would merge quantum computing with future Intellian products.
This non-binding memorandum, announced Thursday, is part of an IonQ initiative to strengthen ties with South Korean industry and tech sectors. In the announcement, IonQ President and CEO Niccolo de Masi said its potential work with Intellian could enable quantum time synchronization as a GPS alternative.
“IonQ’s long-term vision includes being a leader in the quantum-enabled communications industry, leveraging our expertise in quantum networking to support secure satellite-to-satellite and ground-to-satellite communications,” said de Masi.
“We’re excited to partner with IonQ to reimagine the future of satellite technologies,” Intellian CEO Eric Sung added. “Our technology connects customers to the satellites’ networks in space and together, we have the opportunity to explore a new technological paradigm to fundamentally transform current satellite communications and enhance services for the millions of customers who depend on them every day.”
