Intelsat ordered two additional VSAT hubs from Gilat Satellite Networks to support in-flight connectivity (IFC) services in Japan. Gilat said the order will help Intelsat address demand for IFC in Japan.

Gilat announced the order for two additional SkyEdge II-c hubs on Monday. The Gilat’s SkyEdge II-c VSAT network platform supports multiple applications including IFC, consumer broadband, and cellular backhaul. It is accompanied by the network management system, TotalNMS, which allows for full configuration, control and monitoring of all system elements and remote terminals.

“These additional hubs from Gilat provide us with the diversity solution needed to deliver the utmost in service availability to our customers,” said Dave Bijur, senior vice president of Commercial for Intelsat Commercial Aviation. “By expanding our capabilities in Japan with Gilat and the SkyEdge II-c IFC solution, we are delivering on our commitment to the Asia Pacific region to provide robust in-flight communications.”

Intelsat and Gilat announced their partnership to use the SkyEdge II-c for IFC in Asia in January.
