Slingshot Aerospace is stepping up global ambitions with a new Canadian office in Ottawa. The company wants to strengthen Canada’s sovereign space capabilities and support allied collaboration across the space domain awareness (SDA) ecosystem. It is the second significant piece of global expansion the operator has done in the last 12 to 18 months. Slingshot Aerospace made the announcement, May. 1.

Slingshot’s new Ottawa office will lead its Canadian operations, including the rollout of optical sensors in the Canadian Arctic, an area that is critical for tracking satellites in Sun-Synchronous Orbits. Slingshot will use this data to improve space surveillance for itself and its partners. Site selection for the sensors is already underway, as part of a wider push to boost Canada’s role in global space safety. Slingshot will also establish infrastructure to ingest, process, and deliver data to Canadian operators and international partners in real time.

The company’s expansion plans have been gathering pace over the last 12-18 months, In March last year, the company announced its first international offices in Cornwall and London in the U.K., hiring Melissa Quinn at the time to become general manager of International Business.

Canada plays a vital role in the future of global space security. With our new presence in Ottawa, we’re better positioned to support Canadian innovation, deploy sovereign Space Domain Awareness capabilities, and contribute to safe and sustainable space operations,” Quinn said in a statement.
