Globalsat Group will deploy a hybrid satellite and LTE connectivity solution across railway operations for VLI Logística in Brazil, under a new deal announced Tuesday.

It will enable real-time fleet monitoring, and support a future “positive train control” system to monitor and automatically control trains. It also gives VLI’s control teams to communicate directly with train operators in emergencies or to provide information about impending issues. It will support licensing trains through IP communication.
The project was custom-developed to meet the specific needs of VLI. It is a 10-year project is currently in the commissioning phase and will modernize more than 1,800 kilometers of railway network in the states of São Paulo, Goiás, and Minas Gerais, and strategic sites like the Port of Santos. Globalsat is working in partnership with Viasat on the project.
Flávio Pfeifer, signaling and telecommunications specialist at VLI, commented: “Railways increasingly rely on advanced telecommunications systems to control and monitor locomotives. For train licensing, telecommunications systems are crucial as they ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards.”
