Satellite players had a strong presence last week at Aircraft Interiors (AIX) in Hamburg, Germany, one of the biggest aviation shows in the calendar. It was clear that in-flight connectivity (IFC) remains a fertile market for satellite as airlines look to bring better and stronger connectivity, both to improve the passenger experience and operations. Satellite operators SES, Intelsat, Hughes, SpaceX, Amazon Project Kuiper, Telesat, and Eutelsat all had a big presence at the event.

Airlines are becoming more demanding when it comes to connectivity. The conversation seemed to concentrate around how standalone Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) connectivity would fare against a multi-orbit offering which combines capacity from different orbits. It remains a fascinating market. Airlines are not afraid to change providers and definitely want more flexibility when choosing their connectivity provider. What AIX shows is this remains a market where satellite players believe there are a number of big contracts to be had.

Via Satellite Senior Editorial Director Mark Holmes interviewed executives from Airbus, Neo Space Group, SES, Intelsat, CesiumAstro, Anuvu, and Quivia about how they see the market, and the potential for business with airlines going forward. Watch all of the interviews here.
