Intelsat has signed a new line-fit agreement with Embraer that allows Embraer to install Intelsat’s in-flight connectivity (IFC) equipment on Embraer E2 aircraft during factory production, the companies announced April 9.

The two companies have a “buyer-furnished equipment” agreement to offer Intelsat’s multi-orbit system as a line-fit option on Embraer’s family of E2 aircraft. Airline customers can now order planes with the Intelsat electronically steered array (ESA) system already installed and operational upon delivery. Intelsat noted the company is the first multi-orbit satellite in-flight connectivity system with an ESA antenna to be installed at the Embraer factory.

“At Embraer, we pride ourselves on building the world’s most efficient, reliable, and comfortable single aisle aircraft, as well as continuously pursuing advancements in technologies that improve aircraft performance and passenger experience,” said Martyn Holmes, CCO of Embraer Commercial Aviation. “With Intelsat’s IFC system now line-fit available, we are enabling our airline customers to offer a highly optimized in-flight Wi-Fi experience that will keep them competitive and allow them to delight their passengers.”

Separately, Intelsat reported it has completed installation of its ESA in-flight system on 130 aircraft and has secured commitments for 1000 aircraft. The operator has contracts with airlines including Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, and American Airlines.
