The SXM-10 satellite, based on the 1300 satellite platform of Maxar Space Systems, now Lanteris Space Systems, part of Intuitive Machines.

After acquiring spacecraft manufacturer Lanteris Space Systems, Intuitive Machines is now making a $175 million investment focused on technologies to advance communications and data processing networks.

The company said it plans to invest in expanding its near space network services and “establish a solar system internet independent of Earth.” Intuitive Machines plans to invest in the flagship 1300 satellite platform to expand capability around the Moon, extend capability to March, and support on-orbit data processing and edge computing. The 1300 satellite platform has supported customers like SiriusXM and Hughes Network Services, through its heritage with Maxar.

Intuitive Machines highlighted opportunities like Golden Dome initiatives, the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS) for NASA, and the Mars Telecommunications Orbiter.

The company also said it is working with “strategic partners across the terrestrial technology sector” on opportunities for space-based data centers.

Intuitive Machines announced Wednesday it has a definitive securities purchase agreement with the institutional investors for company stock in exchange for a $175 million equity investment. The transaction is expected to close on February 27.

“We are building a scalable infrastructure platform from low-Earth orbit to the Moon and into deep space,” said Intuitive Machines CEO, Steve Altemus. “With this investment, we can accelerate the integration of the combined company’s collective capabilities to deliver next-generation data, communications, and space-based infrastructure services.”

Intuitive Machines acquired Lanteris Space Systems, formerly the spacecraft manufacturing business of Maxar, in January, to bring flight-heritage manufacturing in-house.
