The winner of Satellite Executive of the Year will be determined by a combination of votes from Via Satellite readers, the editorial board, and SATELLITE 2020 attendees. The winner will be announced at the SATELLITE 2020 Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, March 11.
Eric Sung, CEO, Intellian — Led Intellian to win Via Satellite’s first Satellite Technology of the Year award in 2019. Secured a major deal with OneWeb to build user terminals for remote enterprise networks and cellular backhaul. Achieved 51% revenue growth in the cruise market.
Masood Mahmood, CEO, Yahsat — Grew Yahsat into the top ten satellite operators by revenue. In 2019, acquired Thuraya to become a fully integrated FSS/MSS operator, expanded into 40 new markets mainly in West Africa, formed a JV with Hughes for Brazil broadband, and increased maritime revenues 50%.
Peter Beck, CEO, Rocket Lab — Conducted six Electron launches in 2019 (double 2018), deployed more than 15 satellites to orbit. Completed Launch Complex 2 in Virginia, began LC-1B in New Zealand, and became cash-flow positive for over a year. Expanded into satellite manufacturing with the Photon satellite bus.
Kathy Warden, Chairman, CEO, and President, Northrop Grumman — Led the integration of Innovation Systems after acquiring Orbital ATK. In Q3 2019 alone, NGC booked more than $10 billion in new contract awards. Successfully launched the Mission Extension Vehicle-1 (MEV-1) for in-orbit servicing.
Tim Ellis, CEO, Relativity Space — Co-founded Relativity Space at age 25, developing the first fully 3D-printed rocket and autonomous rocket factory. Won launch contracts with Telesat LEO, Spaceflight Industries, and Mu Space. Secured the first-ever U.S. Air Force launch site award at Cape Canaveral to a venture-backed company.
Steve Collar, CEO, SES — Led SES’s transformation away from video-centric business. Signed a landmark multi-faceted cloud and satellite deal with Microsoft in 2019. Networks business exceeded $500 million for the first time, up double-digits year-over-year. Played key role in the C-Band Alliance protecting satellite spectrum. VS
