Japanese synthetic aperture radar (SAR) provider Synspective has signed a 10-launch deal with Rocket Lab for dedicated Electron launches, its second multi-launch agreement with Rocket Lab in a year and a half.
Last summer, Synspective ordered 10 Electron launches. With these two launch contracts and another previous agreement, Rocket Lab has a backlog of 21 Synspective missions to meet.
Rocket Lab has been Synspective’s sole launch provider so far and has deployed six StriX satellites across six dedicated launches since 2020. Synspective also has three launch contracts with SpaceX and another for nine missions with Exolaunch’s mission management services.
Synspective is working toward a constellation of 30 SAR satellites by the late 2020s. The company’s SAR satellites serve use cases like land displacement monitoring, flood damage assessment, and object detection and classification.
“Rocket Lab’s precision and track record have consistently enabled us to stay on schedule and achieve our mission objectives. As we move forward with 21 launches, our continued collaboration is crucial to accelerating the deployment of our SAR satellites and the growth of our contribution to global risk reduction across the domains of security, disaster resilience, and the environment,” commented Founder and CEO Motoyuki Arai.
Synspective has expanded its operations over the last year and half, after raising a Series C round last summer. It went public in Japan, opened a mass manufacturing site for satellite production, and opened a subsidiary in the U.S.
