Kongsberg revealed Monday that its signal processing equipment will be integrated in the Thuraya 4-NGS satellite. Kongsberg will also be manufacturing and testing electronics, as part of the agreement.

Thuraya 4-NGS is a new mobile communication satellite being built by Airbus Defence and Space. In August, Yahsat chose Airbus as the manufacturer. The satellite aims to deliver higher capabilities and flexibility while increasing capacity and coverage across Europe, Africa, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

Kongsberg will deliver integrated L-band pre- and post-processors. The L-band processors are Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW)-based, and the development is supported by European Space Agency (ESA) and the Norwegian Space Agency.

“We are proud to be a trusted partner to Airbus Defence and Space. They have been an important customer for many years, and this contract secures our leading position within the mobile Geostationary Orbit (GEO)-satellite market. It gives us a solid foundation for further growth and development,” said Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace Director of Marketing in Space and Surveillance Ellen Dahler Tuset.
