Maxar Intelligence on Tuesday said it received $204.7 million in new multi-year contracts from three existing customers in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region to boost sovereign defense and intelligence capabilities for the undisclosed customers.
The awards exemplify the demand the company is seeing from customers in the Asia-Pacific, Europe, and MEA regions for “guaranteed sovereign services” that complement their national satellite capabilities, Anders Linder, general manager for international government at Maxar Intelligence, told Defense Daily.
The services the company are providing include satellite imagery, and analytics such as object and change detection, which are part of Maxar’s new artificial intelligence-enabled Sentry solution for predictive intelligence, Linders said in an interview.
Most of Maxar’s international revenue comes from providing imagery but sales related to data analytics are growing, he said.
The MEA customers are using Maxar’s Direct Access Program, which allows them to have their own ground antennas to communicate with, and directly task, the company’s Earth observation satellites as they pass overheard. Customers can task the company’s satellites up to 15 minutes before they get to the planned target and then get the imagery and analytics within 15 minutes after an image is taken, Linders said.
The more a customer pays, the more access they get, he said.
The countries are “continuously adding to their portfolio of ISR,” Linders said, referring to intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.
Depending on where a customer is located, some may have a Maxar satellite pass over them up to 15 times a day, he said.
