Planet Labs will work with Anthropic to utilize the company’s large language model Claude for analyzing Earth observation data, Planet announced on March 6.

The partnership will combine Planet’s daily geospatial data with Claude’s AI capabilities, including advanced reasoning and pattern recognition. Planets said the integration could enable near real-time pattern recognition and anomaly detection on a global scale.

Planet CEO Will Marshall highlighted the partnership’s potential to ease value extraction and understanding of satellite data. He emphasized the wide-ranging applications, from government threat detection to agricultural yield improvement and disaster response.

“Claude will help Planet identify and analyze patterns in complex geospatial data at a scale and speed previously impossible,” Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s CEO and co-founder said. “Claude’s ability to interpret vast amounts of data could improve how the world detects environmental changes, monitors global infrastructure, and responds to natural disasters.”

This announcement follows Planet’s AI Symposium, a virtual event where industry experts and Planet leaders discuss the relationship between AI and Earth observation data.
