Spacebridge has received an order from Jar Electrónica Aplicada (Grupo Jar) to expand its Discovery Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) platform. Grupo Jar, a Mexico-based telecommunications system integrator, uses Spacebridge’s Discovery VSAT platform to deliver connectivity for applications including internet, rural telephony, and cellular backhaul.

This expansion will further upgrade the VSAT platform to enhance internet services and cellular backhauling for a Grupo Jar Tier 1 operator/customer across their coverage area of Central America and the Caribbean. The expansion will double capacity of the hub and the terminals of its system, increasing the connectivity bandwidth of the existing terminals.

Grupo Jar CEO Roberto Garcia said the company has expanded the Discovery VSAT platform to hundreds of VSAT terminals using multiple generations of SpaceBridge modems, which has reduced the company’s ownership and preserve the original investment both at the hub and the remote infrastructure.

“Whereas Spacebridge architecture allows us to add the latest efficiencies and optimization of new technologies, it creates an environment that is backwards compatible, allowing a graceful update without losing our original investment,” Garcia said.
