Spire Global is building out its space reconnaissance portfolio for defense, with new radio frequency (RF) geospatial intelligence capabilities for persistent monitoring, geolocation, and situational awareness.

The company said its RF monitoring satellites are able to detect and geolocate signals like GNSS jamming, spoofing, and other forms of disruption. Spire said its expanded space reconnaissance portfolio has the capability to detect unauthorized radio signals, collect and process unencrypted publicly broadcast voice transmissions from space; and identify and track signal emitters over time.

Last year, the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory awarded Spire a $14 million contract to deploy a cluster of satellites to detect and track moving objects on Earth for situational awareness for U.S. defense operations. Spire said that additional detection satellite clusters are scheduled to launch no earlier than late 2025 through 2026 to increase revisit rates and extend coverage.

“With our enhanced RF detection and geolocation capabilities, we’re equipping partners and agencies globally with the intelligence they need to make confident, informed decisions — even in the most complex and hard-to-reach environments,” commented Iain Goodridge, senior director of radio frequency geolocation products at Spire.
